Y Combinator · Launch Video Breakdown: Hook, Pacing & Motion Design

Pentagon (@runpentagon) is a coordination layer for humans and agents. Agents are everywhere at work now - coding, researching, ops, even talking to customers. But they work alone, and humans become the middleware. Pentagon is how everyone communicates, coordinates, and works as one team. Congrats on the launch, @edgarpavlovsky!

  1. The Hook

    Humanity's Collaborative Past & AI's Isolated Present

“(No spoken dialogue — Cinematic orchestral elements and modern electronic sound design build tension with ambient textures and subtle percussion. Pizzicato strings and a driving rhythm introduce the main musical theme, accompanied by a prominent sub-bass.)”

    On screen
For all of human history, we've done our best work in teams. The build. The rescue. None of it ever belonged to one person. And then we built AI someone decided AI was here to replace us. We think that's the wrong idea. And the best work people are going to do this decade the work people are going to remember So we built a place for that. A place where humans and agents talk and build as a team. Here's what we did:
    Camera
Rapid cuts between historical and modern team-based activities, then shifts to a lone individual and AI-centric scenes. Camera angles vary from wide shots to medium close-ups, often with a slight push-in or dynamic movement to match the scene's energy.
    Motion
Fast-paced montage editing with cross-dissolves and hard cuts. Text overlays appear and disappear quickly, often centered. The visual style is gritty and cinematic, using stock footage to establish a narrative.
  2. Problem Agitation

    The AI Coordination Gap

“(No spoken dialogue — The music continues with a driving rhythm, featuring pizzicato synths and orchestral strings. High-energy audio transitions, including risers and sub-bass drops, punctuate scene changes.)”

    On screen
We let your agents talk to each other. And we gave you the tools to teach them There's work and then there's the work that changes everything.
    Camera
Cuts between a futuristic scene with two robots, a classroom setting with a teacher, and then transitions to a black screen with text. The camera is mostly static or has subtle zooms in these short clips.
    Motion
Direct text reveals on black screens, interspersed with short, impactful video clips. The pacing remains quick, building anticipation for the product reveal.
  3. Product Reveal

    Introducing Pentagon: The Coordination Layer

“(No spoken dialogue — The audio track intensifies with a more pronounced electronic beat and orchestral swells. Sound effects like whooshes and digital pings accompany on-screen graphics and transitions.)”

    On screen
    (No on-screen text)
    Camera
Dynamic 3D camera movements, orbiting around abstract geometric shapes and digital interfaces. The camera often follows lines and paths, creating a sense of depth and motion through a digital space.
    Motion
Abstract 3D motion graphics, showcasing the Pentagon logo and its conceptual framework. Use of glowing lines, particle effects, and volumetric lighting to create a futuristic and sophisticated aesthetic. Interpolated camera paths and object animations are key.
  4. Feature Teaser

    Seamless Human-Agent Collaboration

“(No spoken dialogue — The music maintains its energetic pace, with more intricate electronic melodies and percussive accents. Specific sound design elements highlight UI interactions and data flow.)”

    On screen
    (No on-screen text)
    Camera
Close-up shots of UI elements, followed by sweeping camera movements across complex data visualizations and network diagrams. The camera often tracks along animated lines and connections, emphasizing flow and interaction.
    Motion
Detailed UI animations, data visualization, and network graph animations. Elements animate in with smooth easing curves, revealing connections and information flow. Use of subtle glows, blurs, and depth of field to guide the viewer's eye.
  5. Call to Action

    Join the Future of Teamwork

“(No spoken dialogue — The audio track builds to a powerful crescendo with full orchestral and electronic instrumentation, culminating in a final impactful sub-bass drop and a sustained, resonant chord.)”

    On screen
    (No on-screen text)
    Camera
The camera pulls back to reveal the full Pentagon logo, then transitions to a final black screen with the company name and tagline. Smooth, deliberate camera movements emphasize the final branding.
    Motion
Logo reveal animation with volumetric lighting and subtle particle effects. Text fades in with a clean, modern aesthetic. The overall motion is confident and conclusive, using slow, controlled easing for the final elements.
