    Backtesting and Optimization in Action

“Now I can ask Claude to backtest a strategy on Nifty, timeframe 15 minutes, time range for entry 9:30 to 14:45. If spot crosses above super trend, sell a put, and if it crosses below, sell a call. Exit the position at 15:15. Use Volrix MCP. The backtest ran successfully. Here's a summary of what the strategy did and how it performed. Can you now optimize the strategy by trying different types of option entries like credit spread, debit spread, ratio spread, etc., and also try it out with different variables and provide me with the best variation that works? All done. Now fetching metrics for all five, comparing. All results in. Now building the comparison dashboard.”

Here's a summary of what the strategy did and how it performed: Strategy logic: On every 15-minute NIFTY spot candle between 9:30 and 14:45, the strategy checks for a supertrend crossover (default settings: length 10, multiplier 3). A cross above the supertrend triggers selling an ATM Put, while a cross below triggers selling an ATM Call. Any existing position is squared off before the new one is entered, and all open positions exit at 15:15 via minTrigger. Key takeaways from the results (Mar 4 - Jun 26): The strategy came out profitable with ₹23,494 total P&L on ₹1.5L capital (15.66% return). The Write a message... The key improvement came from two changes working together: a more responsive supertrend (length 7, multiplier 2 vs the baseline's 10x3) that catches reversals earlier, combined with a trailing SL that locks in profits as the option decays in your favour. The trade-off is a slightly higher max drawdown (11.6%) from the looser supertrend generating more signals in choppy periods. Honourable mention: V2 - Credit Spread (ST 7x2.5) If capital preservation is your priority, V2 is the better choice. It posted the best Sharpe ratio of all 6 variants (4.33) and the lowest max drawdown (-3.0%), essentially halving the risk of the baseline. The hedge leg (buying OTM2) eats into absolute P&L (₹9,695) but creates a far smoother equity curve - Sortino of 7.35 is exceptional. What didn't work: Debit spreads (V3) and OTM1 selling with a 30% profit target (V6) both lost money. For debit spreads, the problem is structural - intraday time decay works against the buyer, and multiple crossovers meant paying premium both ways repeatedly. OTM1 selling with a target locks you out of bigger moves while leaving full downside open when the position goes wrong. Suggested next steps: You could run V5 over a longer backtest window (1-2 years) to validate
